Rheumatoid Arthritis

Sierra Physical Therapy has a simple goal: keeping you moving. It will stimulate muscles, bones, and joints through exercise or other methods. The result is more strength, tone, and overall fitness.

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a form of arthritis characterized by bouts of inflammation.  During the inflammatory period, the joints need protection and gentle motion in order to prevent them from "freezing" up, and the patient should not do any heavy exercises.  When the swelling and inflammation of the joint has subsided, the patient can be instructed in specific active and strengthening exercises.  A qualified therapist will know when to provide the correct type of exercises and will design a home program for you.

The patient also will be taught joint protection techniques and methods in order to prevent joint trauma.

The physical therapist will help you to improve joint function, muscle strength, and decrease stiffness.. They understand the mechanics of bones, joints, and muscles working together, the problems that can occur, and what to do about them.
