There are several types of arthritis; the most common ones are: Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis:
An initial evaluation will determine the patient's needs. Patients who have arthritis need to learn joint protection techniques in order to prevent further damage to their joints.
Often there is significant stiffness and weakness surrounding the joints. Specific strengthening and stretching exercises are prescribed by the physical therapist.
Exercises for arthritic joints must not be overly strenuous; they are geared for the condition, increasing strength while preventing further damage.
